Background information
"What is the status and where is the potential of the photobook? Not only does it facilitate a different kind of presentation and dissemination than gallery exhibitions; the book format also allows the challenges of photographic immediacy to be met and supports illusions of movement and investigations into photographic imagery. Further, the importance of the photobook has grown for the dissemination of avant-garde conceptual photography, as well as for documentary or political statements. (But) is the photobook today primarily a mainstream medium, a collector's item, or a platform for artistic experimentation? This collection of essays addresses current intellectual-intuitive, technical, and practical ways of communicating through photo books and other image narratives." (© Art and Theory, 2013)
