Background information
"As much as his extroverted lifestyle stamped Gunter SACHS (1932 - 2011) as a lover of beautiful women in the public eye, he himself cultivated his career as a lover of the fine arts. Sachs was an art collector, patron, gallery owner, curator, friend of art and artists, but above all he was a successful photographer and filmmaker himself.
Content
For the first time, the photo volume 'Kamerakunst. Photography, Film and Collection' presents photographs by Gunter SACHS from the genres of fashion, still life, architecture, portrait, landscape photography as well as his experimental and conceptual photography in connection with his photography collection.
This collection includes works from the 1930s to the present day: from well-known greats such as Andreas FEININGER, Andy WARHOL, Irving PENN and Horst P. HORST to works by young artists. In addition, the art-historical influences on Sachs' photographic works such as Surrealism, Nouveau Réalisme and Pop Art are shown. The volume is rounded off with an insight into the cinematic work of Gunter SACHS." (slightly adapted publisher's text, © Hirmer Verlag, 2019)
