Background information
Toni SCHNEIDERS (1920–2006) was one of Germany’s most influential photographers. Through images made in the context of the 'fotoforum' group and 'Subjective Photography', he played an important role in broadening and refining the post-1945 photographic avant-garde. The photo book 'Schaut her!' is the exhibition’s catalogue to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Toni SCHNEIDER. The F.C. Gundlach Foundation and Kunstfoyer Munich have created an extensive retrospective of this work, on show at the Kunstfoyer.
Content
The photo volume 'Schaut her' contains images of persons, objects or landscapes, which Toni SCHNEIDERS consistently captured in precisely composed images he discovered the beauty of graphic forms in the most simple and commonplace things. Through bold cropping and an emphasis on surface and line, shape and structure, he created images of great clarity and humanity, touched by humor and empathy." (© Steidl Verlag, 2020)
